After a half hour delay due to the prior match on the MDL Astro this Reserve Cup match between Trim Celtic and Newfoundwell also went into extra time and served up 5 goals with the Trim side coming out on top by the odd goal. But both teams flew out of the traps, the visitors looked dangerous down the left flank but young Jack Cottrell was more than up to the task with help from Ger Dwane. Celtic got a better foothold in the game with Dimmy Higgins pulling the strings and dominated the middle of the half scoring through Scott O'Leary who pounced on a defensive error. Newfoundwell are a good side and came back finishing the half strongly without forcing an equaliser. Both teams started the second half strongly with some meaty challenges going in on both sides, Newfoundwells striker did well to get on to the end of a thru ball to make it 1-1. The game ebbed and flowed with some good play coming from Aaron Winters around the middle third and with the game going into the last 10 minutes Declan Gray swung in a free kick which Eddie Murray headed home. However Newfoundwell showed why they are current Cup holders forcing extra-time with an equaliser with the last kick of the 90. The game opened up in extra time, with tired legs on both sides both teams emptied their benches. Celtic took the lead with a beautiful through ball to Scott O'Leary who chipped the keeper from the edge of the box. With minutes to go Mark Corrigan put in a superb challenge in the box but the referee called a penalty. Celtic keeper Ryan Andrews got down to his right to save the penalty and win the game for Celtic. This was a superb for Celtic who knocked out the holders who currently also lead the Premier Reserve Division.
