On a night of spectacular goals it was Quay Celtic who progressed to the final of the Kilmessan Shield with a 4-2 win. The home side forces Celtic keeper Iain Telford into a fine save before taking the lead with a superb free kick. Celtic responded with the Quay keeper forced into a save at this near post but he was beaten shortly afterwards when he couldn't keep out Keith Jones stunning left footed volley. Quay responded and restored their lead also with a volley from the edge of the box. Trim's Brian Faulkner then rattled the crossbar with James Goggins also sending a dipping Colley narrowly over. However another stunning long range goal gave the Dundalk side the lead. Before halftime the visitors pulled one back with Paul Campbell unleashing a dipping shot from the edge of the box.
Early in the second half Trim had a penalty claim waved away when Daryll Kelly was tripped in the box, while at the other end Cyril Halton got his body in the way of a thunderous goal bound shot. Zak McGowan received his second yellow card dealing the Trim side a blow and Quay wrapped up the scoring and the tie with a fourth goal on the break.
