League leaders Parkvilla were put to the sword by a strong performance from Trim Celtic Greens in the U16 Shield in Navan. Celtic took the lead In the 9th minute when Alan Costello picked up the ball after a great through-ball from Kris Gorman and held off the defender to finish in style into the bottom corner. Parkvilla battled well in midfield but Celtic created the better chances as James Molloy, Kris Gorman, Alan Costello and Henrique Magno all had good efforts saved. Molloy then smashed a great effort off the post as the Champions continued to attack. Celtic back four of Sean Tully, Wes & Blake Gibbons and Harry Cottrell were outstanding in a good competitive first half as both sides showed why they are chasing a league title. HT 0-1 The second half was a completely one sided affair and the Celtic attacking players took control of the game. Alan Costello anticipated a free-kick from Kris Gorman well and met the ball with a firm header to score for Trim Celtic Greens in the 46th minute. Kris Gorman picked up the ball from a clever Sean Tully throw in and curled a sweet strike past the Parkvilla goalkeeper. After a foul on the right edge of the box, up stepped Alan Costello who took full advantage to seal his first hat trick this season. An excellent overall performance from Alan. Cealain Geraghty replaced the hard working Jamie Callan and took only 5 minutes to make his mark with a goal. Henrique Magno registered after he picked up the ball from a great cross from Kris Gorman and hit a crisp strike straight into the back of the net. In the 68th minute Joey Cole picked up the ball from a pass from Kris Gorman and hit a crisp strike from 20 yards. After some nice work by Trim Celtic Greens, a gap opened up inside the box and the outstanding Kris Gorman took the opportunity with aplomb to place the ball past the scrambling keeper to take his tally to 2 goals and 4 assists for the game. Aaron Mc Cormack nearly added another as his excellent effort smashed off the post in the dying stages. The only negative was a shoulder injury to David Boyle in the final few minutes. Both teams are due to meet again in a few weeks in what could be a league title decider. Celtic march on in chase of a league & shield double. An outstanding team performance with Alan Costello and Kris Gorman at the top of their game.
