Match Report

In what was a repeat of last week’s NECSL Cup Final, the contest was a much different affair as Celtic turned on the style from the first whistle. With the double already in the bag, the Celtic lads played like champions. They passed the ball well and pressed in groups when the opposition had it. And it was some good pressing and play from James Molloy to setup Jared Akigbesote to score after 10 minutes. After some excellent saves from the Parkvilla keeper, it took a 25 yard screamer from Conor O’Hare into the top corner to make it 2-0. Although the score was only 2-0 at the break, both Sean Tully and Wes Gibbons were excellent at the back and in total control.
In a period of 30 minutes in the second half Celtic were totally ruthless and scored 6 goals.
Sean Mc Donnell bagged a hat trick. The first was a fine finish following a good ball over the top from Tully. His second came from a long ball by Blake Gibbons that the Parkvilla defence failed to clear and Mc Donnell reacted the quickest to fire past the keeper. The third was the pick of the bunch. After a poor Parkvilla clearance, Mc Donnell ran onto a ball and stuck a first time daisy cutter from 20 yards into the bottom corner. His corner also setup Kris Gorman as his header crossed the line before the keeper could get to it. A just reward for Gorman after an excellent second half display.
James Molloy then beat the keeper following some excellent high pressing from the champions. And finally Jared Akigbesote scored his second after a great pass from Alan Costello down the left. Celtic march on in the shield. Next up is Torro Utd in the SFAI Cup.
