Match Report

Trim travelled to Blackcastle to play OMP on a beautiful morning for football. Trim had a depleted squad today and the eleven who turned out gave a performance full of spirit, determination and discipline. OMP are a good , strong side who play tidy football. Tey settled quickly and put Trim under presssure from the off. Many of the Trim team were playing in unfamiliar positions so their discipline and organisation in the face of constant pressure was all the more impressive. After 21 minutes OMP opened the scoring after the ball squirted from a melee on the edge of the area to an OMP striker who gave Henri Devine in goal for Trim no chance to save.
OMP carried that lead into the second half and continued to enjoy the majority of possession. But they found it hard to break through a firm defensive line and in trurth were restricted to long shots and speculative crosses in the main. On 17 minutes an unfortunate bounce of the ball took it to the feet of the OMP centre forward who coolly dispatched it to the net. Shorthly afterwards Trim lost Aidan Scott to injury and were now playing with 10 men. But they continued to work tirelessly to keep the opposition out. 2 minutes from the end OMP scored from the penalty spot to put the result beyond any possible doubt. OMP well deserved the win today. But this Trim performance had many good points. The discipline, work rate and organisation was tremendous. To concede so few chances when the opposition dominated possession was down to pure hard work on the part of all eleven Trim players. The Trim back four defended like demons all game. Shaun Mulryan and Aidan Scott relished the very physical tussle in midfield. Tyreece Tango and Rob Gunning ran themselves into the ground on the wings.Dylan Smith and Aaron O Connor worked tirelessly upfield. Henri Devine had no chance with the goals but as he always does at least once in every game he pulled off a superb flying save to save a certain goal midway through the second half.
