Match Report

Trim Celtic 15 Premier team advanced to the 2nd round of the cup after a 4-1 away win against a determined OMP in Navan. In what was a close affair in the first half, as both teams came to grips with the hot weather, Celtic were somewhat fortuitous with the first goal. Man of the Match Wes Gibbons delivered an excellent free kick into the danger area where the OMP keeper fumbled it and grateful Sean Mc Donnell was on hand to make it 1-0. Celtic lacked a cutting edge and were punished with some sloppy defending when they failed to clear a cross and the OMP forward was left unmarked at the back post to finish well. The second half was a much different affair. Celtic increased the tempo and moved the ball with speed and better accuracy. In the first 15 minutes of the second half Celtic scored 3 goals. The first was some excellent work from Wes Gibbons on the wing. His cross found Harry Cottrell in the box and he rifled his shot into the roof of the net to score his first goal of the season. Wes Gibbons made it 3-1 with a cool finish after great work from Kris Gorman and Jared Akigbesote completed the scoring with a good finish after Cottrell found him free in the box. Celtic had a number of additional chances forcing some fine saves from the OMP keeper.
