Match Report

While this was an away fixture for Trim the venue was switched to the MDL and what a beautiful morning it was for this Celtic team to attempt to continue their recent good run of form. Over the past few weeks Trim had proven very difficult to beat. Unfortunately defensive lapses in the first half of the game gave them a mountain to climb in the second half. The opening exchanges were pretty even with the Hoops marginally the better team although playing against the breeze. But two lapses in concentration on 20 and 22 minutes led to 2 goals and put Navan Town on the front foot. Almost immediately Trim forced a corner. Dylan Smith lofted a beauty toward the back post which Aidan Scott took down and poked into the bottom corner. Trim were back in the game but 10 minutes later an uncharacteristic hesitation in the defence gifted the Navan side a third goal. Trim's confidence was now at a low ebb and just before half time another outbreak of indecision allowed Navan in for goal number four.
So a strong start to the second half would be needed to get back into the game but it was Navan who scored first. Game over you might think but this team doesn't give up. For the next 20 minutes Trim were on top and had great efforts from Aidan Scott and Adrian Bisczs narrowly miss the target. With 8 minutes left Trim moved the ball from the right hand side to Aidan Scott in central midfield. Aidan played a sweet ball through to Dylan Smith on the left hand edge of the penalty area. Dylan stepped inside his man and launched a shot from just inside the box which whizzed past the keeper into the roof of the net. Trim now had the bit between their teeth and pressed for another. 5 minutes from the end, some good interplay down the left saw Jack Fagan pick up the ball on the left hand side of the area. He drifted inside on to his right foot and curled the ball inside the far post for Celtic's third. Trim continued to press while Navan caused some problems on the break but there were no further goals. Navan deserved the win simply because they took almost every chance they had. Trim, after a poor first half, played well enough in the second half and never gave up on the game. They simply gave the opposition too big a head start and despite their best efforts could't pull it back. Best for Trim Celtic were Aidan Scott and Dylan Smith. Trim Celtic squad: Donal McGale, Sean McPhillips, Finn O'Connor, Sam Lynch, Oisin Gallagher, Arnas Mineikis, Tyreece Tango, Dylan Smith, Jack Fagan, Robert Gunning, Aidan Scott, Adrian Biszcs
