Match Report

With Celtic losing five players including their goalkeeper between Friday evening and Saturday afternoon it was always going to be a tough task going to Kells with just the bare eleven players and so it turned out. In fairness Celtic were more than a match for their hosts in the first half and with a minute to go to half time there was only a goal in it with Celtic creating the better chances. A goal on the stroke of half time, however, left the away side with a mountain to climb.
That mountain got a lot steeper in the second half as a number of injuries left Celtic with only eight fit players on the pitch as Kells used their nine substitutes well to always ensure they had fresh legs. With Celtic's injured players opting to stay on the pitch due to the fact there were no substitutes it was proving too easy for Kells to run through them and both teams agreed to finish the game ten minutes early to prevent further injuries. While the heart and commitment of the Trim players cannot be questioned there does remain a need for a bigger squad to face up to the demands of tough league.
Trim Celtic: Luke Doyle, Evan deCourcey Tobin, Andrew Gibney, Oran Kirby. Adam Wilson, Liam Reilly, Mark Cunningham, Fionn McEvoy, Conor McGinley, Sean Foley, Kevin McGowan
