Match Report

On a dreadfullly wet and windy day at the MDL Trim Celtic White began their season against Johnstown. Trim played against the gale in the first half and held their opponents at bay for 22 minutes when Johnstown scored a good headed goal from a corner. As the wind became stronger so too did the pressure for a second goal from Johnstown and in the final minutes of the half they scored twice to lead 3-0 at the break.
To their credit Trim didn't give up on the game knowing the conditions would favour them in the second half. Within 2 minutes of the restart Sam Lynch pounced on a knockdown for Celtic's first goal following a free kick from Shaun Mulryan. 5 minutes later Aidan Scott cracked home a second. In the next 10 minutes Celtic scored twice more through Shaun Mulryan and Finn O'Connor to take the lead and an unlikely comeback looked on. But as Trim lost 3 players to injury Johnstown regrouped and scored 2 more before the end to win. This was an incredible game and both teams deserve credit for their efforts in appalling conditions for football. In a good team performance Adam Boylan and Shaun Mulryan in the centre back positions were the stand out performers.
