The First Team booked their place in the Challenge Cup Final for the second year in a row with a fine win over Parkvilla at the MDL Grounds. The game had only just kicked off when Celtic took the lead. Just 90 seconds had passed when Jack O’Keeffe picked up the ball just inside his own half, took the ball to the other side of the centre circle before lobbing the keeper from 40 yards. An even spell followed until the 25th minute when Sean FitzGerald headed home Dean Courtney’s corner to double Celtic’s lead. The dismissal of a player following the goal meant it was a double blow for Parkvilla. Aaron Williams added a third with a superb curled effort from outside the box as the Trim side pressed home their numerical advantage. Parkvilla needed a goal before the break and almost got one in the fourth minute of added time but their defender volleyed over from six yards. O’Keeffe’s second on 63 minutes followed a superb dribble before he unleashed a low dipping shot into the near corner. The last ten minutes was action packed with O’Keeffe completing his hat-trick from the penalty spot after he was felled following another jinking run. Substitute Colm Carney produced a wonder goal as he danced around the Parkvilla defenders before curling a shot into the top corner. He then turned provider when combining superbly with Luke Mahon’s back-heel to unselfishly square for Cillien Corcoran to tap home. Corcoran was later on the wrong end of a heavy challenge which led to red card before being upended in the box for a penalty which also resulted in a red card as Parkvilla were reduced to 8. Carney stepped up to slot home the penalty for his second goal.
