Match Report

There was real disappointment for Celtic in this Premier Shield Quarter Final in Navan as Torro Utd deservedly advanced to a semi final meeting with Oldcastle. It was to prove a game too far for Celtic's injury depleted side as they went into the game missing two first team starters and lost two further players to injury during the game. Despite this Celtic never gave up and they needed their fighting qualities more than ever when, after a fairly even opening 15 minutes, Torro took the lead playing into a strong wind. Celtic's task was then made more difficult when Andrew Gibney and Fionn McEvoy had to come off injured leaving them with no more subs available. Despite this they started to come back into the game and some good work down the left from Eoin Gaffney and Liam Reilly nearly brought the Trim team back into the game. It wasn't to be however and Torro wrapped up the game with a neat finish two minutes from time to leave Celtic with only pride to play for after such a promising start to the season. In the end the size of the Celtic squad was to count against them as injury and illness robbed them of too many key players at key points in the season and all the players who played through injury in recent weeks to keep eleven players on the pitch should rightly be proud of themselves. We would like to wish Torro all the best in the semi final and the remainder of their league campaign and look forward to welcoming them back to the premier league next season.
Trim Celtic: Luke Doyle, Eoin Gaffney, Oran Kirby, Adam Wilson, Eoghan Lenehan, Conor McGinley, James Murray, Evan deCourcey Tobin, Fionn McEvoy, Liam Reilly, Andrew Gibney Subs: Jack Vaughan (for Gibney), Kevin McGowan (for McEvoy)
