Match Report

Trim Celtic scorers: Aidan Mangan (18), Nathan Costello (89) Trim Celtic advanced to the 3rd round of the FAI Umbro cup after a hard fought win over local rivals Parkvilla. Trim opened the scoring after 18 minutes with a well taken goal from striker Aidan Mangan after a fantastic defence splitting pass from Scott O’Leary. Celtic limited Parkvilla to long distance efforts and went in comfortable leaders at half time.
Fifteen minutes into the second half Parkvilla seized upon a rare defensive mistake to put the sides level and set up a fantastic last half hour of football from both sides. Scott O’Leary came close to scoring on the 83rd minute with a superb strike cutting in from the right and hitting the far post. It was O’Leary that was involved again in the winning goal in the 89th minute. After picking the ball up on the right he beat several Parkvilla defenders and was again denied by the woodwork this time his shot came off the crossbar and fortunately for Celtic fell to in-form striker Nathan Costello who made no mistake from 8 yards out.
With little time left on the clock Parkvilla had no time to recover and Trim Celtic now advance to the 3rd round. Best for Trim Celtic were left winger Danny Morris and midfielder Jordan Bennett.
