Match Report

Trim Celtic scorers: Nathan Costello 5, Gerard Dwane
Following their 2nd round victory over local rivals Parkvilla next up for Trim in the 3rd were the team currently sitting top of the NDSL Premier Division Drogheda Town. With the heavy rain forcing most of the weekend’s fixtures to be cancelled it was thanks to the MDL grounds and the new UEFA 1 astro pitch that this FAI cup game was able to take place.
The teams were evenly matched in the early exchanges until Nathan Sheridan in goals released Danny Morris on the wing with a quick throw out, Morris produced a fantastic pass up the line to in form striker Nathan Costello who had a lot to do from the half way line to score but that he did with ease beating the defence for pace and smashing a right footed shot into the corner of the goals giving the Drogheda Town keeper no chance.
One nil at half time and the introduction of Ruairi Shortt for Jack Cottrell for the second half proved to be the game changer. 5 mins into the second half Peter Farrell set up Nathan Costello for his second, a delightful chip over the On rushing keeper. It wasn’t long after when Shortt won back possession and set up Costello again who made it 3-0 after 60 mins. Drogheda Town tried their best to make a game of it but their attacks were broken down in midfield by Shortt, Bennett and Farrell or at the back by o’Leary and Dwane who were excellent in the centre back positions. On 75min Costello made it 4 with yet another little dink over the keeper. Gerard Dwane made it 5 from a corner on 80 min. Drogheda Town to their credit then pulled a goal back, but it was Nathan Costello yet again who would have the final say scoring Celtic’s 6th and his 5th goal of the game on the 86th minute. The score line could have been greater if midfielder Peter Farrell had not been denied on 3 occasions by the cross bar. A fantastic individual display from Costello and an overall great team performance with Shortt, Bennett, Shane Gartland and Cormac Hunt playing a big part in the win. Next up for Celtic is an away trip to the winners of Derry Rovers (from Edenderry) and Malahide United.
