Match Report

In their first game in the Premier Shield the Gunners were cruelly denied a deserved draw by a last minute winner from Kells Blackwater. Despite missing 6 of their regular squad due to a combination of holidays and sickness the Gunners started this match quite brightly and duly took the lead after 10 minutes. David Boyle played the ball out wide to Josh Harris who expertly returned to ball to David Boyle who then beat one man but was then brought down in the box. David dusted himself down and coolly placed the ball into the bottom right corner. The Gunners continued to press with some great runs down the left hand side by Ciaran Caulfield but unfortunately a 2nd goal was not to come. Kells started to get on top just before half time and but for a great one handed save by James Bourke diving to his right they would have equalised. However they did restore parity just 1 minute before half time.
Kells Blackwater came out of the blocks quickly at the start of the 2nd half and were 2-1 up 2 minutes after the restart. James Bourke made another fine save in the 40th minute to keep the Gunners in the game. 10 minutes later the sides were level. Blake Gibbons was fouled in the middle of the pitch, from the resultant free Josh Harris found David Boyle on the edge of the box, David beat his man and chipped the keeper to make it 2-2. The Gunners were on top now and went 3-2 up 5 minutes later when Ciaran Caulfield found Aaron McCormack on the run and Aaron finished the ball to the corner of the net. Just when the Gunners thought that they had completed the perfect comeback, Kells scored 2 late goals, 1 with 3 minutes to go and the winner in the last minute of the match. Best for the Gunners were James Bourke, who was outstanding in goals, Blake Gibbons, Josh Harris and David Boyle.
