Match Report

Trim Celtic welcomed Oldcastle in a last 16 clash at the MDL grounds on Saturday. On yet another windy afternoon Celtic took full advantage of the wind to pin Oldcastle back from the first whistle. After a couple of half chances Celtic took the lead through Evan deCourcey Tobin on 15 minutes when he swivelled in the box to send a deflected shot past the Oldcastle 'keeper. It then took Celtic just three minutes to double their advantage when Andreas Lopez drifted in from the left to find the bottom corner with an accurate shot from the edge of the area. Celtic pushed on, knowing that they needed to take full advantage of the wind and the clinching goal came five minutes before the break when Andrew Gibney poked the ball home from close range following a concerted spell of pressure.
Playing into the wind in the second half left Celtic facing a different set of problems but they coped admirably with the conditions and, after conceding a goal midway through the half, created some good chances of their own. Liam Reilly brought out a good save from the Oldcastle 'keeper before he played in Fionn McEvoy but the ball just wouldn't sit down for him and the chance was gone. Celtic then showed great resilience to restrict Oldcastle to a couple of long range shots which didn't trouble Luke Doyle in the Celtic goal and the final whistle brought cheers all round from the players and supporters. With Enfield awaiting in the quarter finals and the league still up for grabs it should be an exciting end to the season for the boys in green.
