Match Report

Trim Celtic scorers: Sophie O’Connor 2, Kate Forde, Michelle Doonan.
Trim Celtic Under 14 Girls maintained their unbeaten start to the season with a 4-2 victory away to Balrath F.C. Caitlin Gorman was again solid in goals, performing a couple of very brave saves in the first half. In defence Stacey Donoghue, Julie Ann Murtagh and Lili O’Connor were making their first starts of the season, and all performed solidly. Kathy Rispin’s distribution from throw-ins was particularly effective in the tough conditions. Trim Celtic got their opener on 10 minutes when Sophie O’Connor scored with a strong shot from distance which went in off the bar. Kate Forde extended the lead with a tidy finish when put clean through. In the second half with the wind in their faces Trim Celtic had to work hard to keep out a spirited Balrath side. An early goal for Balrath gave them hope. Sophie O’Connor then extended Trim Celtic’s lead with a great strike from just inside the area. Sophie and Andrea Hiney’s strong running was a constant threat to the Balrath rear-guard. In the middle Leah Dennehy and Hannah Boggins enjoyed long spells of possession. With 10 minutes to go, a wonderful long winding run by Michelle Doonan resulted in Trim’s 4th goal. Balrath responded with another goal, but Trim held on for their first win away from home this season.
