Match Report

Played on a bumpy pitch that made good passing football difficult, this game ebbed and flowed and either side could have won it in the end. The Gunners started well and took the lead after 8 minutes following a good run and cross by Josh Harris which found Donal Mc Gale at the far post who calmly slotted the ball home. The Gunners has 2 further attempts by Ciaran Caulfield to extend their lead in the 12th and 15 minutes. Kentstown almost equalied in the 17th minute but for a fine save by James Bourke. Aaron Mc Cormack had a good chance in the 20th minute but shot narrowly wide. The Gunners were made to pay for their missed chances when Kentstown equalised 5 minutes before the break.
The first chance of the 2nd half came the Gunners way after 35 minutes when a powerful free from David Boyle was narrowly wide with the goalkeeper well beaten. Kentstown took the lead for the 1st time 3 minutes later but this lead was short lived as the Gunners equalised 2 minutes later following a defence splitting pass from Josh Harris which found David Boyle who finished to the bottom corner. Disaster struck for the Gunners 3 minutes later when Cealain Geraghty slipped in the box and in the process brought down a Kentstown forward. The resultant penalty was converted to give Kentstown a 3-2 lead. The Gunners kept going despite this setback, Evan Smyth was unlucky with a shot in the 45th minute but the Gunners deservedly equalised in the 50th minute when a long ball by David Boyle was flicked on by Aaron Mc Cormack to Ciaran Caulfield who drove the ball home past the keeper. Both teams went all out for the winning goal in the last 10 minutes and Aaron McCormack was cruelly denied when his last minute shot came back of the post into the keepers arms. Best for the Gunners were James Bourke, Dylan Smith, Josh Harris, Blake & Wesley Gibbons.
