Trim Celtic ran out comfortable winners in the first Trim derby in a number of years. Celtic took the lead on 7 minutes when captain Derek Donohoe superbly controlled Keith Jones’ long pass and finished cooly. Town had a good chance to equalise but Ian Keenan’s shot was well saved by Celtic keeper Danny Connell. Another Jones pass put Mark Leavy in on goal to double Celtic’s lead in the 25th minute. Within ten minutes Celtic had doubled their lead again with Donohoe grabbing his second with a superb strike from outside the box while also providing an assist for Daryll Kelly to slot home the fourth. Two goals inside an minute on the stroke of halftime with Ryan and Leavy netting courtesy of assists from Jones and Donohoe left the halftime score at 6-0. Celtic started the second half the way they ended the first with Ryan converting on 49 mins. Ryan grabbed his hat-trick on 61 minutes before Brian Faulkner wrapped up the scoring on 71 mins.
