Match Report

Trim Celtic advanced to the 3rd round of the FAI Junior Cup with a 3-0 victory over MDL counterparts Rock Celtic. Despite the visitors starting better without threatening the Trim goal Celtic almost took the lead midway through the half but the impressive Eoin O’Connor saw his shot saved by the imposing John Rogers in the Rock goal. Captain Derek Donohoe also had a half chance but he was unable to hook his volley over the keeper in a half lacking in genuine opportunities. The home side really began to impose themselves on Rock in the second half with Donohoe clipping the outside of the post with a shot from the edge of the box early on. The breakthrough came in the 72nd minute when Anthony Craig superbly chested down Colm Smith’s cross and planted the ball in the corner as it dropped. The victory was sealed when Mark Leavy rifled in a cross from the right wing which Paul Munnelly headed powerfully in off the bar. In injury time Mark McCormack marked his return to the side finishing another Leavy cross from close range for his side’s third goal.
