Match Report

The final game of a stop start season for this group was played in Tully Park on Saturday morning. Great credit is due to the club for the condition of the pitch after yesterday’s downpour and it was the first outing on the pitch for the 14 Div 1 team. The opposition were OMP who have had a good season and are a good footballing team. While OMP have had the upper hand in most meetings between these teams the games have generally been close and hard fought. This morning’s game had a similar feel to it despite Trim needing assistance from our 13 Div 1 team to field a full team. With our regular keeper unavailable Dylan Smith and Finn O’Connor agreed to split the goalkeeping duties between them and Charlie McCormack and Evan Collins stepped up an age group from 13s to help out. OMP started on the front foot and pressed right from the off. Trim’s defence coped well with both full backs, Sean McPhillips and Charlie McCormack particularly good. After 18 minutes OMP got through and a neat finish across the goal giving them a deserved lead. Trim continued to defend manfully with centre backs Oisin Gallagher and Finn O’Connor clearing everything that came their way. In front of them Aidan Scott and Sam Lynch battled well against a very good OMP midfield and contributed well to the defensive effort. Trim got to the break at 1-0 without really threatening the OMP keeper.
Early in the second half the presssure began to tell and OMP forced a second goal. A flurry of 3 goals in the next few minutes put the result beyond any doubt before Trim regrouped and the game settled into a pattern similar to the frist half with Trim defending and trying to get something back on the counter. Late in the game Aidan Scott’s departure due to injury preceeded OMP’s final goal. OMP well deserved their win and they are a solid team that play good football. Our lads deserve alot credit for the battling performance they put up today - they never gave up and tried right to the end. Great credit is due to Dylan Smith and Finn O’Connor for filling in betweeen the sticks. Thanks also to Ian Kirby for organising players from the 13s team. The defence worked hard today and the midfield covered alot of ground. Standout performers for Trim were full backs Sean McPhillips and Charlie McCormack who were both excellent on the day. Trim Celtic: Dylan Smith, Nathan McCormack, Finn O’Connor, Sam Lynch, Oisin Gallagher, Evan Collins, Charlie McCormack, Tyreece Tango, Donal McGale, Aidan Scott, Sean McPhillips
