2003 Boys Div 1 vs Newtown Utd

Score: 1 - 5

Match Report

The opening game of the season against Newtown at MDL offered an opportunity to start the season well as these teams have been evenly matched in the past 2 seasons. And for the first half it looked as though another tight affair was in store. Trim led through an excellent finish by Dylan Smith having been played in by Sam Lynch. That scoreline was probably a reasonable reflection on a tight first half where both teams looked a little ring rusty.
However the second half was anything but tight with Newtown's direct style and their centre forward in particular causing Trim plenty of problems. Newtown got the equaliser in the opening minutes of the second half and they dominated play thereafter and from there on never really looked in danger of leaving without a win. Poor use of possession by Trim allowed Newtown to dominate the second half and the visitors went 3 - 1 ahead midway through. While Trim had some chances late in the game to narrow the gap 2 late goals for Newtown, the second on the stroke of full time completed a well deserved win for the visitors.
Best for Trim Celtic were Dylan Smith, Sam Lynch, Shaun Mulryan and Oisin Gallagher.
Trim Celtic squad: Shaun Mulryan, Finn O'Connor, Sam Lynch , Oisin Gallagher, Arnas Mineikis, Robert Gunning, Aidan Scott, Tyreece Tango, Dylan Smyth, Jack Fagan, Kacper Jagodzinski, Adrian Biszcs
