Match Report

It's often said that the hardest thing in football is to put the ball in the back of the net and so it proved for Celtic as they failed to turn their superiority into a victory that would have seen them climb the table. Despite Celtic missing numerous chances it was Enfield who nearly took the lead in the third minute but the shot went the far side of the post from five yards out. Half way through the first half a good run by Liam Reilly saw him ghost past two defenders to cut the ball back from the by-line where Sean Foley narrowly failed to beat the 'keeper. Fionn McEvoy carried on his good form from the previous week and was a thorn in the side of the Enfield defence as he ran himself tirelessly into the ground. The second half followed the same pattern with Foley shooting just wide from twenty yards and Evan deCourcey Tobin forcing a couple of good saves from long range. Ciaran Caulfield found the back of the net with twenty minutes to go but the goal was ruled out for offside. A couple of corners late in the game should have led to a goal but the ball just wouldn't break for the home side. There was a scare right at the end when the Enfield forward broke through to go around the Celtic 'keeper but a fine challenge by Adam Wilson saved the hoops from what would have been an undeserving defeat. At the final whistle for the second week running Celtic saw their opponents celebrating the point whilst they felt deflated which shows again how well they are playing and the results will surely follow. Best for Celtic on the day were Fionn McEvoy, Liam Reilly and Oran Kirby and special thanks to 15 Premier manager Alan McCormack for making two of his players available on the day with Celtic having eight players unavailable.
