Match Report

Celtic hosted Enfield in the MDL on Monday evening hoping to avenge their opening day defeat and put themselves back in the title race. The hoops started brightly and were well on top for the first half an hour without creating any clearcut chances. After half an hour though a long ball upfield caught Celtic out on the break and the Enfield forward finished brilliantly to give them the lead. Celtic, however, pulled level within a minute of the restart as Evan Tobin shot from the edge of the box with his strike taking a deflection before being parried out by the ‘keeper into the path of Conor McGinley who slid the ball home.
Celtic began the second half as well as the first but key injuries to Eoghan Lenehan and Evan Tobin disrupted their rhythm as Enfield began to get the upper hand. Celtic were unlucky then as David Boyle swung a left foot volley in off the underside of the bar only to be harshly judged offside. However with 15 minutes left Dean Rowlands fired in a left foot shot from a free kick which the ‘keeper did well to keep out but Liam Reilly was on hand to volley home the rebound. With a few minutes left on the clock Boyle made sure of the points as he went on a rampaging run down the left and fired an unstoppable shot into the roof of the net from 25 yards. This result sees Celtic four points off top spot with a game in hand and with five games remaining there is everything to play for. Best on the day were Kevin Dalton in goal and solid throughout and Dean Rowlands , who is having a super season. Thanks to Alan and Eric for loaning us a player ( yet again!!)
