Match Report

Celtic got back to winning ways in tremendous style by crushing cup finalists Athboy 4-1 at a sun drenched Tully Park. From the first whistle Celtic took the game to their neighbours and were indeed unlucky to have only one goal to show for their first half endeavours. This came courtesy of an Andrew Gibney corner which was turned in by the excellent Adam Wilson for his first goal of the season. The home side were unfortunate not to add to their tally as they were creating chance after chance with Evan deCourcey Tobin and Fionn McEvoy both coming close for the home side.Midway through the second half some good work down the left by Sean Foley led to Mark Dempsey controlling the ball on the six yard line and firing it home to give Celtic a two goal lead for the first time this season. Two soon became three as Dempsey doubled his tally with another well taken goal. Athboy briefly threatened a comeback with a late consolation but Dempsey had the final word completing his hat trick with three minutes to go. This was an excellent all round team performance as the end of summer meant Celtic had their full squad together for the first time in many months. Best on the day were Goalkeeper Kevin Dalton, back to his best, and hat trick hero Mark Dempsey.
