Trim Celtic 15 Premier side were crowned league champions after a 7-2 victory at home to Parkvilla FC. The unbeaten Celts kept their 100% record in all competitions going with a fine team performance worthy of champions.
Celtic wasted no time as they raced into a 2-0 lead after 10 minutes. Man of the Match Sean Mc Donnell opened the scoring with a fine finish following an excellent through ball from Conor O’Hare. The second came from the penalty spot as Ciaran Caulfield was brought down just inside the box. Keeper David Boyle calmly finished the spot kick to make it 2-0.
Parkvilla found it hard to deal with the pace, power and movement of the Celtic attacks. 20 mins in, Caulfield fired a cross into middle where James Molloy rifled the ball into the bottom corner. 3-0 Five mins later, after some good work from Alan Costello on the left, his cross found Ciaran Caulfield at the back post. His calm finish made it 4-0 to the home side. A mistake at the back let Parkvilla in to make it 4-1.
Celtic started the second half the same as the first. Gorman, Molloy and O’Hare were dominating the midfield and the back four of Mc Cormack, Cole, Tully and Costello were in full control. Some excellent passing moves created a number of chances for Mc Donnell, Caulfield and Akigbesote. Again Celtic scored 2 goals in the first 10 mins of the second half. O’Hare setup Mc Donnell to score his second high in roof of the net. Cottrell replaced Caulfield with 25 mins to go and within a couple of mins found Mc Donnell again who beat the keeper for his hat trick. 6-1. Parkvilla scored a second but it made little difference to the outcome. Another effort from Mc Donnell found its way to Jared Akigbesote who made it 7-2. An excellent all around team performance by the league champions.
