Match Report

Celtic travelled to Bellew Park Dundalk for the SFAI North Leinster U15 Final renewing rivalries with Kells Blackwater. A last minute fitness test ruled out the current Trim Celtic Schoolboy Player of Year Victor Barbu.
Trim put aside this disappointment and captain Max McGowan led out the side, he himself just back from a broken bone in his foot.
Trim started brightly and disciplined in defending the expected Kells style of play. Midway through the half a long free kick across the box was met by a Kells player unchallanged to the net.
Trim never ones to lie down put together some nice phases of possession. One move down the left led to a Max McGowan cross and was finished to the net only to be ruled offside. Soon after Shane Bell was hauled down on the edge of the box after a mazy run beating three Kells players. James Foley took the following free kick and sublimly curled it into the far top corner, the travelling support treated to a wonder strike. Half time soon followed with the sides level.
Early in the second half some direct play from Kells led to a well taken goal. However Trim continued to try and keep the ball on the ground and work their opportunities with Sam Kennedy and Max McGowan tireless in midfield. A fantastic run down the right from Jack Conneely, leaving four in his wake, was crossed into the box, Max McGowan unable to finish what seemed a certain and deserved levelling goal. The following play led to another counter attack by Kells and unfortunately another conceeded goal.
Another Conneely cross led to a half volley shot in the box from Shane Bell narrowly going over. Trim pushing hard for a goal got sucker punched with another break away goal. Easy to drop their heads but Trim kept battling and got their second goal of the day from James Foley.
4-2 to Kells at the whistle.
Games change on small margins and that was certainly the case. Every squad member played and fought to the end with style. With four of this squad born in 2005 the future is bright, with loads of time for further development.
On the day Trim had great performances from Dylan Coyle, Tadhg Carty, Sam Kennedy, Max McGowan, Shane Bell and Jack Conneely.
Congratulations to Kells Blackwater and best of luck for the coming season.
