Match Report

Celtic and Parkvilla played out an entertaining draw in bizarre circumstances in the MDL where not one but two referee mix-ups saw the game which was scheduled for 11:30 eventually kicking off at 12:50 following two delays. It was hard on both sets of players who had been out on the pitch side for nearly two hours before a decision was made to play the game. Celtic started brightly and should have taken the lead when Mark Cunningham struck a fierce free kick off the underside of the bar with James Murray heading the rebound straight at the 'keeper. Murray then dragged a shot wide when cleverly put through by Cian Russell. Murray was at the heart of all the Celtic pressure and it was no surprise when he gave the hoops the lead on twenty minutes when good work by Fionn McEvoy on the right saw the ball laid back to Murray on the edge of the area and he made no mistake burying his first time shot into the corner. Celtic had plenty of possession but couldn't translate it into goals and they were made to pay after fifty five minutes when a long floated free kick deceived 'keeper Kevin Dalton and 'Villa were level. This was a game Celtic should have won but could quite easily have lost when only a goal line clearance from Adam Wilson and some good handling from Dalton kept out Parkvilla in the final minute. Best for Celtic were Adam Wilson and James Murray.
