2002 Boys Prem vs Parkvilla

Match Report

Celtic came up against a strong Parkvilla side and for a large chunk of the game managed to keep pace with last season's league and cup winners. Needing to start strongly in adverse conditions Celtic shot themselves in the foot by conceding three early goals to find themselves 3-0 down after just seven minutes. Despite this setback Celtic re-grouped and were unlucky to fall further behind after fifteen minutes when a long range shot squirmed through the hands of Hoops' net minder Kevin Dalton in the wet conditions. Dalton was having a fine game though and made several top class saves to preserve Celtic's pride. Cian Russell came close to putting some respectability on the scoresheet but his shot flashed inches wide with half time looming.
The second half was a much closer affair and while Parkvilla still had plenty of the ball some brave defending and good counter attacking kept the scores as they were until a fifth goal in the last two minutes rounded off the scoring. The one positive Celtic can take from the game is in keeping their Navan counterparts scoreless for close on fifty minutes in the middle of the game but the damage was already done. Best for Celtic on the day were Kevin Dalton, Oran Kirby and James Murray.
Trim Celtic: Kevin Dalton, Eoin Gaffney, Andrew Gibney, Mark Cunningham, Adam Wilson, Liam Reilly, Oran Kirby, James Murray, Evan deCourcey Tobin, Cian Russell, Conor McGinley
Subs: Fionn McEvoy (for Russell), Eoghan Lenehan (for Reilly), Daniel Coleman (for Kirby), Luke Doyle ( for McGinley), Kevin McGowan (for McEvoy)
