Match Report

On a sunny morning at MDL Trim Celtic faced unfamiliar opposition in Ashbourne Utd of the North Dublin Schoolboy League in the SFAI Cup. This was only Trim Celtic's 2nd competitive game and the players are still getting used to each other so it was always going to be somewhat of a challenge to get anything out of this game but Trim Celtic started very brightly with Adrian Karbonwik leading the frontline attack. Trim Celtic more than held their own until the 20th minute when an Ashbourne attack down the right led to a goal. Trim Celtic responded and only for the on rushing Ashbourne keeper foiled Sean Mukitiri Celtic could have been right back in it. Trim Celtic failed to clear their lines which led to a 2nd goal for Ashbourne and that is how is finished at half time. Again, Trim Celtic started brightly in the 2nd half with a desire to get back into the game. Some great link up play between Cormac Savage and Aaron O'Sullivan failed to bring the goal that Trim deserved and within minutes Ashbourne had their 3rd goal. To their credit Trim Celtic continued to be competitive but some failed clearances and some good play by Ashbourne brought them additional goals to finish the game of in style. Some huge positives and lots of learnings for Trim Celtic players and management as we look forward to the resumption of the league and more games to get under our belt.
Some significant call outs from today where Sean Muktitiri, Evan Collin and Jack O'Donnell drove the team forward. Outstanding in goal was Ryan McLeod whose shot stopping performance was another key strength for the team to build on.
So Trim Celtic return to concentrating on the league and we wish Ashbourne all the best for the remainder of their SFAI cup run.
