2002 Boys Div 1 vs Johnstown

Score: 3 - 6

Match Report

A depleted Trim Celtic side battled hard but came up short against Johnstown at the MDL. Missing 4 players with no subs it was always going to be tough. Celtic stared well with some nice passing but found themselves 3-0 down after conceding three quick goals. Nevertheless the Trim never dropped their heads and pulled a goal back through a great strike from Gary Fleming from the edge of the box which made it 3-1 at half time.
In the second half Celtic reshuffled and made a few tactical changes and came out a different team. An Adam Dunne strike from the edge of the box brought the deficit to one before Gary Fleming got his 2nd to complete the comeback and make it 3-3. Johnstown had an ideal opportunity to take the lead from the penalty spot but Peter Brennan saved brilliantly. In the end Johnstown's ability to bring on fresh legs gave them the advantage as they scored 3 goals in quick succession against a tiring Trim Celtic side. Despite the defeat the Celtic boys were very unlucky and showed great character to come back from three goals down earlier in the match. Best for Trim Celtic were Gary Fleming, Adam Dunne and Conor Mangan. Trim Celtic: Peter Brennan, Conor Mangan, Kyle Smyth, Adam Dunne, Jake Carolan, Gary Fleming, Conor McKeown, Adam Boyle, Josu Igea Barcos, Mark Dempsey, Dillon Swan.
