Match Report

Celtic found it tough on opening day as they faced a strong Cosmos side with a severely depleted squad due to injury and absences. Like their Division 1 counterparts the Trim side were missing players due to a fixture clash and further injuries left them down to twelve players on the day. After a bright and even first twenty five minutes ,during which both sides threatened with Luke Doyle and Andrew Gibney coming close for Celtic, disaster struck for the hoops. First James Murray took a blow to the mouth and had to come off and as soon as the substitution was made Adam Wilson pulled up with a groin strain, leaving Celtic down to ten men. Cosmos took full advantage during the re-shuffle to score two quick and well taken goals.
During the second half Celtic created a few good chances with the industrious Evan deCourcey Tobin at the heart of them. Further injuries to Tobin and Conor McGinley didn't help Celtic's cause and two late goals, the latter coming with the last kick of the game, added a gloss to the scoreline that the Trim side didn't deserve. All things considered it was a very proud display by the lads who never shirked an inch no matter how heavy the legs got in the closing stages. Best for Celtic were James Murray, Andrew Gibney, Evan deCourcey Tobin and Kevin McGowan.
Trim Celtic: Kevin Dalton, Eoin Gaffney, Andrew Gibney, Mark Cunningham, Adam Wilson, Evan deCourcey Tobin, James Murray, Conor McGinley, Liam Reilly, Cian Russell, Luke Doyle
Sub: Kevin McGowan (for Wilson)
