Match Report

Trim Celtic took on Rock Celtic in Tully Park knowing a win would put them into the North Leinster semi final and in the draw for the last 32 in Ireland. Both teams started brightly but Trim made the early breakthrough. A through ball found Shane Bell, who held off the defender and unleashed a sweet left foot strike to the top corner. Trim's tails were up and started to play with added composure. Chances fell to Sam Kennedy and the lively Shane Bell. Before the break, a movement up the right wing involving Dylan Coyle and Max McGowan created some space for James Foley who whipped in a great cross which fell to Charlie Molloy whose sweet strike found the bottom corner. Rock Celtic were in determined mood in the second half but fell three down after defending an early corner which fell to Molloy on the edge of the box where he unleashed another rasper to the net. Noah Lacy O'Dea and Ronan McGinley entered the fray for Finn Maher and Dylan Coyle who put in impressive shifts. Trim continued to create chances, a surging run into the box from Sam Kennedy who let fly narrowly wide, was followed up with a similar run setting up Shane Bell whose shot across the goal hit the post. Tadhg Carty & James Foley were pulling the strings in midfield, with Max McGowan giving his trademark tireless work as Trim dominated possession and created several more scoring opportunities. Mark Brennan came on to see Trim home as Rock threw caution to the wind to get a goal but were denied with a brilliant fingertip save from Diarmuid Doyle. The outstanding defending of Victor Barbu & Nico Fragoyiannis looked impenetrable but Rock did pull one back with minutes remaining to their credit. Trim continue their unbeaten run all season and now look forward to the remaining Shield games, having already secured a League and Cup double. Best of luck to Rock Celtic for the remainder of the season.
