Match Report

An 8 goal thriller saw Trim Celtic hold the league leaders Kentstown Rovers in Tully Park. Celtic started the better and found themselves 2 up after 15 minutes. The first followed great work by Josh Ayton down the right wing. His cross was flicked on by Eoin O'Reilly and the ball was finished to the back of the net by Ben McCreary. Celtic's 2nd came courtesy of hard work by Ben Gaffney and James Gibney when they won the ball back in the midfield. The ball was played out to Ben Clarke and his cross caught the Kentstown defence out and Ben McCreary got his 2nd of the game. Kentstown came back into the game and levelled matters up with 2 really well taken goals leaving the game poised at 2-2 at the break.
The second half was just as entertaining with both teams going for the win. Some fine stops by the Kentstown keeper to keep them in the game were matched at the other end by Celtic keeper Ryan Walsh. Celtic's 3rd goal was worth the wait. James Gibney fired high into the corner of the net from the edge of the box. It looked from there that Celtic would go on to win and after some more heroics from the Kentstown keeper Celtic were convinced they had a penalty only for the referee to wave play on. 10 minutes of madness then turned this game around. From out of nowhere Kentstown got back on level terms and then with 2 minutes remaining the visitors found themselves 4-3 up. With time running out Adam Gillen won a ball at the back and played the ball into Ben Gaffney’s feet. Gaffney turned just inside the Kentstown half to find the Kentstown defence had pushed all the way up so he decided to take things into his own hands and skilfully dribbled all the way into the penalty area and finished low to the keepers right. As with previous games all 18 players played their part in this very entertaining game.
