Match Report

Trim Celtic recovered from their Cup final exertions to record a league victory over Kells Blackwater Navy to leapfrog them into 3rd position in the table. Despite the worry that Celtic might start this game slowly, the opposite was in fact the case. Ciaran Caulfield went on a fine run 4 minutes into the match but his cross come shot went just over the bar. In the 8th minute Josh Harris went on a run and pulled the ball back to Aaron McCormack but his shot was well saved by the Kells keeper, who was very impressive throughout the match and thwarted the Celtic forwards on numerous occasions. Just 2 minutes later another fine cross by Ciaran Caulfield went straight across the 6 yard box eluding all the incoming Celtic forwards. This constant pressure eventually paid off in the 14th minute when Josh Harris latched on to a Celtic throw and ran through the Kells defence to finish expertly past the keeper. Celtic doubled their advantage 2 minutes later when Ciaran pounced on a long ball out of defence to run through for Celtic‘s 2nd goal. Celtic went 3 up in the 22nd minute when Kris Gorman leapt to meet a Ciaran Caulfield corner to head the ball past the helpless Kells keeper. This was how the half finished and Celtic could be happy with their 1st 30 minutes work. Playing with a slight wind and the strong sunshine at their backs Kells came more into the game in the 2nd half and were rewarded with their opening goal in the 35th minute. Celtic responded well to this setback, in the 37th minute Josh Harris was fouled in the penalty box and the responsibility of the penalty was given to Joey Cole who calmly slotted the ball into the bottom left hand corner of the net. At this stage Celtic looked like they were going to run riot but the Kells keeper kept them from falling further behind with 2 excellent saves, one in the 39th minute from a Josh Harris shot and 4 minutes later when he saved a point blank header from David Boyle. However he could do nothing to stop Josh getting his 2nd and Celtic’s 5th in the 46th minute when Josh ran through and fired an unstoppable shot to the top right hand corner of the goals. Celtic relaxed a bit after this and Kells scored 2 goals in the last 10 minutes. Best for Celtic on the night were Blake Gibbons and Harry Cottrell, until he went off late on in the match having been unwell all day. Joey Cole and Kris Gorman in midfield and the mercurial Josh Harris up front. Next up is a much tougher encounter at 10am in the MDL on Saturday morning with Parkvilla Red in the semi-final of the Shield competition. Trim Celtic: James Bourke, James Molloy, Josh Harris, Harry Cottrell, Blake Gibbons, Ciaran Caulfield, Joey Cole, Kris Gorman, Aaron McCormack, David Boyle, Wesley Gibbons Subs: Kian Oliver (for McCormack), Sean Tully (for Cottrell), Evan Kennedy (for Harris)
