Match Report

Celtic's 12 Green side booked their place in the NECSL Cup Final with a strong performance against Navan Cosmos in a chilly MDL. Trim were in determined mood and attacked from the off. Within seven minutes they were two goals to the good, the rampaging Sam Kennedy scoring both after excellent build up play. Shortly after Cosmos were rewarded with a penalty after some good interplay, initially brilliantly saved by goalkeeper Diarmuid Doyle, but Cosmos reacted quicker to finish to the net. The entertaining game continued when a clever flick-on from Shane Bell by-passed the Cosmos defence and fell to Finn Maher who cooly scored to extend Trims lead to 3-1. For the remaing 15 minutes of the first half Celtic had many opportunities with Kennedy, Bell, James Foley and Tadhg Carty all testing the goalkeeper, whilst the defence of Nico Fragoyiannis, Victor Garbu and Rocco Martinis held tight.
The second half had some brilliant passages from play from Trim Celtic none more so than another James Foley wonder goal. On 38 minutes a defensive clearance from Garbu was heading in Foley's direction inside the half way line which he let drop over his shoulder and a first time volley flew into the Cosmos net. A goal to be seen to be believed. Trim's tails were up and two long range shots from Carty and Foley found the Cosmos net. Cosmos to their credit kept going and got a well worked goal after 46 minutes. Carty finished the scoring on 50 minutes with another strong run and shot to the net leaving the score 7-2. Trim can look forward to a Cup Final for the second year in a row and are hoping to replicate last years win. Recent performances suggest a squad high on confidence and looking forward to the challenges ahead.
