Match Report

In an eagerly anticipated Cup semi-final between the 2 form teams in the league, Trim Celtic emerged victorious in a pulsating match. Celtic started the match in good form having beaten the same opposition recently in the league. There were few chances in the first quarter despite Celtic having much possession of the ball. The 1st chance fell to Ciaran Caulfield when David Boyle won a Parkvilla kick out and played him in but his shot went narrowly wide. Ciaran had another chance to break the deadlock 3 minutes later but his shot was pushed onto the crossbar by the Parkvilla keeper. Celtic didn't have to wait much longer for the opener when Aaron McCormack went on a fine run but his shot was blocked, however it fell nicely to Josh Harris who finished with his left foot to the top left corner. At this stage Parkvilla were reduced to the occasional break from defence, on one of these in the 25th minute a Parkvilla forward went on a run across the Celtic defence and earned his team a penalty, which they converted for the equaliser. Aaron McCormack almost regained the lead for Celtic 2 minutes before half time when he found himself free at the back post but his shot went narrowly outside the post. The Trim side again started the half well and were so dominant that both central defenders, Harry Cottrell and Wes Gibbons got forward to test the Parkvilla keeper with long range shots. Celtic almost got a second in the 45th minute when Josh Harris hit the post from a Ciaran Caulfield cross. This was the start of a litany of times that the post was to foil Josh's attempts to score. However he did score his 2nd goal in the 50th minute when Blake Gibbons won the ball and played it to David Boyle whose pass behind the Parkvilla defence was latched on to by Josh Harris, his shot hit both posts before settling in the back of the net. Celtic defended resolutely for the remainder of the match but in truth Parkvilla rarely threatened after this and Celtic advance to meet the other Parkvilla team in the final. In a great all round performance it would be unfair to single out any individuals as everybody played out of their skins tonight. Next up is a preliminary round Shield match away to Kells Blackwater Red on Saturday morning. Trim Celtic: Shaun Mulryan, Josh Harris, Harry Cottrell, Blake Gibbons, Ciaran Caulfield, Joey Cole, Kris Gorman, Aaron McCormack, David Boyle, Sean Tully, Wesley Gibbons, Subs: James Bourke (for Mulryan), James Molloy (for McCormack), Kian Oliver, Evan Kennedy
