Match Report

Trim Celtic's 12 Green defeated Johnstown FC in the Premier League in a rain soaked MDL on Saturday. Having lost the previous league encounter between the sides, Trim were in determined mood to keep their current run of wins going despite missing several squad players. Celtic started brightly and were playing some fine attacking football. After some tough tackling and closing down play by Shane Bell the ball fell to Finn Maher whose cultured left foot shot found the far corner of the net to give the home side a deserved lead after 7 minutes. Trim's tails were up now and a break from midfield by Tadhg Carty got him in range to unleash a powerful shot that flew straight into the net, 2-0 after 16 minutes. Johnstown tried to get back into the game but the defensive combinations of Nico Fragoyiannis, Victor Garbu, Rocco Martinis and Ronan McGinley were majestic. On 23 minutes after some some fine build up play by the rampaging Sam Kennedy, he slid the ball to Shane Bell leaving him one and one with the onrushing goalkeeper he expertly shot to the near post to put Trim 3-0 ahead.
Trim delighted with their first half performance started the second half playing into a strong wind but continued to battle for every ball. Cormac Savage led the line and his continued pressure on the Johnstown defenders led to a clearance dropping to the feet of Shane Bell whose sweetly struck shot hit the back of the net, Trim were 4-0 up and flying. Goalkeeper Diarmuid Doyle was confident when called upon and make some excellent saves as Johnstown pushed to get some foothold in the game, his long range kickouts against the wind were a huge feature of the second half and had the opposition defense under constant pressure. The excellent Tadhg Carty put the result beyond doubt with 10 minutes remaining when a delightful Finn Maher inswinging free kick dropped to his feet and he cooly finished for his second of the day. Trim continued to show great endeavour and finished the game out for a deserved 5-0 win, much to the joy of all their supporters. This was arguably one of this teams finest performances given the conditions, the quality of opposition and the team spirit shown by the squad.
