Match Report

Trim Celtic 13 Premier side continued their fine recent run with a good win against Parkvilla Blues on a sunny Saturday morning in the MDL. Trim started the match well without creating any obvious chances. That all changed in the 18th minute when Josh Harris continued his recent goal scoring form when he toe poked home the ball from a corner to give Celtic the lead. The same player doubled Celtic’s lead 3 minutes later when he superbly finished past the advancing keeper after being played through by a magnificent pass from Kris Gorman. Josh almost grabbed his and Celtic’s third with a fine shot that went narrowly wide in the 27th minute. Kris Gorman was also unlucky with his shot from the edge of the box in the last minute of the half. Just as Celtic thought they were going into the interval with a 2 goal lead, Parkvilla scored from a fortuitous penalty awarded in injury time at the end of the half in one of their few forays into the Celtic half. The one goal lead didn’t reflect Celtic superiority in the 1st half but reminded Celtic that they could not be complacent in the 2nd half. The 2nd half started and continued in the same vein as the 1st half with Celtic again dominating play without adding to their lead. They did have one early chance in the 43rd minute with Ciaran Caulfield's neat lay off to David Boyle resulting in a fine shot that was saved by the keeper. Celtic did extend their lead in the 52nd minute when Josh Harris' shot was parried by the keeper and Ciaran Caulfield was on hand to score from the rebound. Celtic were on top now and could have had another 2 minutes later when a fine run and cross by Ciaran Caulfield found Aaron McCormack at the far post but his shot was cleared off the line. Celtic did score their 4th a minute later when Ciaran Caulfield's fine run and shot down the wing was deflected to the net off a Parkvilla defender for a 4-1 lead. This score line better reflected Celtic’s dominance throughout the match. Parkvilla did pull another goal back with a few minutes to go but there was never any danger that they could get back into the match. In another excellent performance, best for Celtic were the Gibbons brothers at the back, Kris Gorman had another superb performance in midfield and David Boyle was back to close to his marauding best in midfield. Josh Harris was again dangerous up front despite coming out of his sick bed to play with another brace today. Next up for Celtic is a cup quarter final against Kentstown at the same venue next Saturday. Trim Celtic: Shaun Mulryan, Josh Harris, Harry Cottrell, Blake Gibbons, Ciaran Caulfield, Joey Cole, Kris Gorman, Aaron McCormack, David Boyle, Sean Tully, Wesley Gibbons Subs: James Bourke (for Mulryan)
