Match Report

Trim Celtic started their cup campaign against a Kells Blackwater team who had beaten them in an earlier league encounter. On a lovely spring morning Celtic started confidently following their superb win the previous week. As early as the 9th minute Ciaran Caulfield went on a fine run but was ultimately denied by the Kells keeper. This was a pattern which was to be repeated throughout the match, their keeper kept them in the match for long periods. He was however helpless to stop Josh Harris in the 13th minute when his bullet of a shot lodged in the bottom corner of the net to give the Celtic the lead. Josh thought that he had his 2nd in the 19th minute when a shot by Ciaran Caulfield was saved by the keeper and Josh converted the rebound but was deemed to in an offside position. He didn't have long to wait to get his 2nd as 1 minute later he picked the ball up in a deep position and ran through the Kells defence and beat the advancing keeper. This was how the half finished with Celtic having a thoroughly deserved 2 goal lead. Celtic again started the 2nd half well looking for the 3rd goal to kill the game off, 3 minutes in Josh went on another run but this time the keeper pushed the ball out for a corner. Disaster struck for Celtic in the 38th minute when in one of their few attacks, Kells pulled a goal back following a goalmouth scramble. The game was end to end now and a minute later Aaron Mc Cormack had a fine shot go just wide. With both sides going for it now Kells were awarded a free just outside the box and the resultant kick ended up in the top corner of the net. After this shaky period Celtic regained their composure, realising that the game could be slipping away from them. In the 43rd minute Josh Harris turned provider for Ciaran Caulfield who finished well for his 1st goal. Trim were now back in control of the match but had to wait until the 52nd minute for their 4th goal. This time Joey Cole played through a lovely ball to David Boyle whose 1st time lay off was perfect for Josh Harris to run onto to complete his hat-trick. Ciaran Caulfield completed the scoring in the 58th minute when he picked up a Kris Gorman pass and slotted the ball home. Trim advance to the next round where they will play either Kentstown or Johnstown. On this form no team will look forward to meeting them. On a day when Trim produced another excellent performance, their star performers were Harry Cottrell who may some excellent interceptions and brought the ball out from the back with a lot of composure. Joey Cole also had an excellent match in the centre of midfield and the twin strike force of Ciaran Caulfield and Josh Harris who terrorised the Kells back line with a display of both pace and power. Trim Celtic: Shaun Mulryan, Josh Harris, Harry Cottrell, Blake Gibbons, Ciaran Caulfield, Joey Cole, Kris Gorman, Aaron McCormack, David Boyle, Sean Tully, Wesley Gibbons Subs: Kian Oliver (for McCormack), James Bourke
