9 man Trim Celtic exited the Kilmessan Shield at the hands of current Premier Division leaders Navan Cosmos on Friday. Celtic started well and forced a superb save from the Cosmos keeper before the home side took the lead on the half hour mark. Early in the second half a routine clearance from Celtic keeper Iain Telford was charged down by a Cosmos striker. The ball broke kindly for the Cosmos player and with a goal imminent Telford hauled him down. A red card for Telford and penalty were the result despite Celtic protestations that the ball had struck the hand of the Cosmos player. Stand-in keeper Aaron Ryan got his hand to the spot kick but couldn't keep it out. Minutes later Celtic were given a mountain to climb when defender Eoin O'Connor also received his marching orders. Celtic forced an O.G. to set up a nervy last ten minutes but Cosmos settled the tie with a second penalty.
