Match Report

After a lengthy 3 month break without a competitive match, Trim Celtic could not have asked for tougher opposition than table toppers Parkvilla in their 1st match back. Celtic turned in their most impressive performance of the season to deservedly overcome the league leaders. It was obvious right from the start that Celtic were up for this match and never gave Parkvilla any room in which to play. The game started evenly enough, Kris Gorman had the 1st chance when his fine shot went narrowly wide in the 11th minute following a pass from Joey Cole. Trim took the lead 5 minutes later when a poorly cleared corner was laid back by David Boyle to Ciaran Caulfield who curled in a majestic shot to the far corner. In the 20th minute after a fine run by Aaron McCormack, Josh Harris had a shot that just went wide. The same player had a great chance in the last minute of the 1st half when he received a ball from Kris Gorman but blazed the ball over the bar. Trim were in control now but needed the advantage of a 2nd goal. The 2nd half was only 3 minutes old when the 2nd goal arrived for Celtic, from a Sean Tully throw in, Josh Harris took the ball to the end line and pulled it back to Ciaran Caulfield who calmly curled the ball in at the far post. Despite this 2 goal lead, Celtic never relented and we rewarded with their 3rd goal in the 45th minute, having broken from a Parkvilla corner, David Boyle played the ball up to Ciaran Caulfield who returned the compliment to Josh Harris by crossing to Josh for the easiest of chances which he duly converted. Parkvilla to their credit keep fighting and had their chances mainly from free kicks, their 1st free kick was well turned around the post by stand in keeper for the day, Sean Mulryan, but there was absolutely nothing that he could in the 55th minute when a Parkvilla free went in off the underside of the bar. Parkvilla pushed on looking for a 2nd goal as you would expect from a team of their quality but despite some decent chances for both sides in the last 5 minutes the match finished 3-1. In an outstanding performance by every single Trim Celtic player, both Blake Gibbons filling in at left back and Kris Gorman were exceptional. Blake never gave his man an inch, no matter who he marked throughout the match and Kris had his best game ever for Celtic, covering every single blade of the pitch and battling for every single ball. Trim Celtic squad: Shaun Mulryan, Josh Harris, Harry Cottrell, Blake Gibbons, Ciaran Caulfield, Joey Cole, Kris Gorman, Aaron McCormack, David Boyle, Sean Tully, Wesley Gibbons, Kian Oliver, Evan Kennedy
