Trim Celtic needed extra time to progress to the next round of the challenge cup at the expense of fellow Premier Division side Dromin Utd. The Louth side struck first and struck early with a goal inside two minutes but Derek Donohoe levelled immediately. On ten minutes the lead had been reversed with Keith Jones' goal giving Celtic a 2-1 lead. The hosts stuck back on the half hour match to leave the sides level at the break. Dromin took the lead for a second time courtesy of a penalty but Eoin O'Connor levelled the scores with an hour gone. Neither side could find a winner and so the game headed into extra time. Substitute Colm Carney gave Celtic the lead again and this time there was to be no comeback as Declan Dowling gave the match its first two-goal lead before Brian Faulkner wrapped things up for a 6-3 victory.
