Trim Celtic leapt to second place with an impressive victory over league leaders Abbey Celtic. James Goggins gave the Trim side the lead in the first fifteen minutes when he latched onto Sean FitzGerald's superb defence splitting pass to slot home. When Mark Leavy's dangerous free kick was fumbled by the home keeper Eoin O'Connor was on hand to poke home doubling his side's lead shortly after. A third goal before the break came courtesy of an O.G. when a routine clearance from the Trim half fell to an Abbey player who saw his back pass sneak under his keepers foot and over the line. Derek Donohoe rattled the crossbar before he scored a fourth early in the second half with a shot from the edge of the box that squirmed past the keeper. Abbey pulled a goal back with twenty minutes remaining, however there was to be no miraculous comeback and Trim Celtic saw the game out for an excellent three points.
