Match Report

Green scorers: Shane Bell, Tadhg Carty
White scorer: Sean O'Shea, Max McGowan
Friendships were put aside for an hour with two even teams giving it their all in wet and windy conditions at the MDL. The Greens took the lead through Shane Bell's long range struck which was set up by Tadhg Carty. The Whites kept pressing on and soon equalised through Sean O'Shea before the same player nearly put them ahead just before the break.
After half time, the Whites pushed for a second goal with several good passages of play, one of which resulted in a superb finger tip save from the Greens keeper Diarmuid Doyle as he pushed a long range effort from Charlie Molloy onto the post. The Whites kept playing nice football despite the conditions and an excellent attack resulted in them taking the lead. Sam Sweeney won the ball in his own half and fed Molloy who played Dylan Hegney in down the left with a lovely through ball. Hegney whipped an inch perfect cross into the box for Max McGowan to finish perfectly. The Whites kept on attacking as they looked to increase their lead with Sweeney desperately unlucky not to score when his free kick rattled the crossbar. Both teams exchanged scoring chances but Greens got an equaliser through the excellent Tadhg Carty after good combination play from Finn Maher and Ben Ryan.
The Whites pushed on again with chances for Hegney , McGowan and O'Shea before Sweeney had a header cleared off the line. As the game looked to be heading for a draw, Shane Bell won the ball, after tough tackling on the wing, broke towards goal at speed and fired the ball to the near post net with seconds remaining. It was a tough result for the Whites given their performance but one which bodes well for the future of the club at this level as both sides contributed to a very entertaining game.
