Match Report

Trim Celtic scorers: Harry Cottrell, Ciaran Caulfied, Kian Oliver On a horrendous morning in the MDL, with the match in doubt right up to kick off, Trim Celtic emerged victorious by the odd goal in 5 against a very competitive Kentstown side. Celtic started with the elements in their favour and it was important to make a good start in the arctic like conditions. Celtic got off to a flier when a speculative shot by Harry Cottrell from a 30 yard free kick ended up in the roof of the net. Despite Celtic enjoying a lot of possession, Kentstown had their chances on the break, hitting the outside of the post in the 6th minute. Kris Gorman almost doubled the Celtic lead in the 10th minute with a fine shot that went narrowly wide. Trim kept pressing for a 2nd goal but Kentstown almost equalised in the 18th minute but for a wonderful headed goal line clearance by Joey Cole with the ball destined for the back of the net. Kentstown did get an equaliser just 3 minutes before half time. Despite this setback Trim kept attacking, realising the importance of taking advantage of the elements. Just a minute before half time the 2nd goal arrived when Kian Oliver was on hand at the far post to convert his chance following a blocked effort from Ciaran Caulfield. Celtic turned over for the 2nd half facing the elements, which thankfully had subsided slightly during the half time break. Josh Harris was introduced shortly into the 2nd half and his ability to hold the ball up proved very useful when playing against the wind. The same player was on hand in the 41st minute to put Ciaran Caulfield through who finished the ball past the keeper into the bottom right hand corner of the net to double Celtic’s lead. Unfortunately this advantage didn’t last too long as Kentstown pulled a goal back in the 45th minute. Both teams had chances in the last 15 minutes, with Kentstown coming closest when a brilliant volley was just wide of James Bourke's left hand post. Best for Trim Celtic on a day when we had 15 heroes, were James Molloy, who played a real Captains role at the back, Joey Cole who was excellent in midfield showing his wonderful array of passing, David Boyle who seems to be returning to form and Kian Oliver who grabbed his chance today when given a starting role wide on the right. Trim Celtic: James Bourke, James Molloy, Harry Cottrell, Ciaran Caulfield, Joey Cole, Kris Gorman, Aaron McCormack, David Boyle, Sean Tully, Wesley Gibbons, Kian Oliver Subs: Josh Harris (for McCormack), Blake Gibbons (for Gorman), Sean Mulryan (for Oliver), Evan Kennedy (for Sean Tully)
