Match Report

Trim Celtic scorer: Evan Smyth
A cold morning at the MDL for the game with Kingscourt but the players of both teams served up a good contest. Trim began well with Aidan Scott and Arnas Mineikis controlling central midfield and Oisin Comiskey and Sam Lynch getting the better of their opponents on the wings. Chances were few and far between for either team as both defences were quick to close down and clear any danger. Evan Smyth and Dylan Smith worked hard up front for Trim and showed good ball skills but a solid Kingscourt defence managed to hold them out. The first half ended 0-0.
With both defences playing well it looked as though one goal might be enough to win the game. So it proved as after 5 minutes of the second half Evan Smyth pounced on a mishit clearance from the unfortunate Kingscourt keeper to give Trim the lead and ultimately the win. Kingscourt increased the pressure on Celtic but could make no progress against a solid midfield and relied on long ball over the top to find a way through but the Trim rear-guard dealt with everything thrown at them. Oisin Gallagher and Finn O'Connor in the centre and Nathan O Neill and Kacper Jagodzinski in the full back spots mopped up competently and gave very little opportunity to the Kingscourt forward line. A miscommunication in defence with 10 minutes to play almost let Kingscourt in but the shot went wide of the post and Trim survived to the end of the game. That was one of very few errors made by the Trim defenders in what was a very tight game. Mark Christofferson and Jack Fagan worked tirelessly when brought on in the second half and contributed well to what was a good win for Trim. Donal McGale in goals was in excellent form. He showed good ball handling skills, communicated very well with his defence and was brave in coming off his line to clear and to smother Kingscourt attacks. There were many good performances on the day but Finn O Connor`s excellent performance in an unfamiliar role in central defence stood out and he was deservedly awarded Man of the Match.
