Match Report

Trim Celtic scorer: Ciaran Caulfield Trim Celtic made the long journey to Kells on a cold Saturday morning to play the local team but came away pointless in a match that they dominated throughout. This was due to a large degree by an inspired performance by the Kells keeper who produced several breath-taking saves. Trim were slow to start but still created the better chances in the early part of the match. In the 4th minute Ciaran Caulfield ran on to a through ball from David Boyle but his shot was deflected for a corner. However Ciaran did manage to beat the Kells defence in the 10th minute following a superb through ball from Joey Cole to put Trim Celtic 1-0 up. Celtic kept pressing for the 2nd but were pegged back to 1-1- when they were caught on the break after 14 minutes when the ball was quickly cleared by the Kells keeper following a Celtic free kick. The next clear cut chance for Celtic came in the 26th minute when Josh Harris had an excellent shot from the edge of the box well saved by the keeper. Trim were pressing hard now and Kris Gorman had a fine shot just wide in the 29th minute. Trim thought they had regained the lead a minute later when a great cross by Ciaran Caulfield was narrowly missed by David Boyle at the back post. In a cruel twist Kells broke up the pitch and with only their 2nd chance of the half went into a 2-1 lead. To their credit the lads' heads never dropped and they could have had an equaliser in 1st half injury time when Ciaran Caulfield smacked the ball off the Kells crossbar. The same player ran through a minute later, rounded the keeper who managed to get back and block Ciaran’s goal bound shot. Despite being 1 down at half time, Celtic still felt that there would be goals for them in the 2nd half playing down the hill. The 1st chance of the 2nd half fell to Josh Harris in the 39th minute but his shot was wide. A minute later David Boyle had another effort just off target. In the 43rd minute Josh Harris went on a fine run but just as he was about to pull the trigger the Kells defence got back to block his effort. Trim tried hard for the remainder of the game but they seemed to run out of steam a bit on a very heavy pitch, they had 1 final chance in the 58th minute when Kris Gorman almost got on the end of a Ciaran Caulfield cross. While disappointed with the result Trim Celtic can be heartened by their performance on the day. Best for Trim were Harry Cottrell, who was back in his favoured defensive position, Kris Gorman and David Boyle in midfield and Blake Gibbons who was introduced as a 2nd half substitute. Next up is Kentstown at home net Saturday so hopefully they can get back to winning ways if they keep up their performance. Trim Celtic: James Bourke, Shaun Mulryan, Josh Harris, Harry Cottrell, Ciaran Caulfield, Joey Cole, Kris Gorman, Aaron McCorm ack, David Boyle, Sean Tully, Wesley Gibbons Subs: Blake Gibbons (for Mulryan), Kian Oliver (for Harris), Evan Kennedy (for Tully)
