Match Report

Trim Celtic scorer: James Foley Trim Celtic Green team exited the SFAI Cup at the 3rd round stage at a rain soaked MDL. Two evenly matched teams tried to play good football in miserable conditions. Johnstown struck the first goal after 16 minutes, undeterred Trim battled and created some good scoring opportunities without finding the net. Early in the second half the excellent James Foley collected a ball inside the halfway line and after a short run hit an amazing curling dipping long range shot that found the top of the net, another wonder goal for his collection. Trim pushed for the winner but Johnsown held firm and the teams headed for extra time.
The continuous rain made for very difficult conditions but Trim continued to battle, create opportunities and defend brilliantly. Just as penalties were looming a Johnstown corner was not cleared and after a goal mouth scramble found the net. To their credit for the remaining two minutes plus extra time Trim pushed for an equalisier but to no avail. Trim can be happy with their overall performance with Nico Fragoyiannis, Victor Garbu, Tadhg Carty and James Foley prominent.
