Match Report

Trim Celtic scorers: Ciaran Caulfield, Kian Oliver The game started badly for Trim with a goal for Parkvilla after 1 minute when a Parkvilla free kick ended up in the back of the net off the head of a Trim Celtic player. Celtic found it difficult to settle and 5 mins later a second goal for Parkvilla resulted from a free kick. It could have been worse for Trim when Parkvilla were awarded a penalty in the 7th min, but the Trim keeper James Bourke made himself big in the goal and the Parkvilla player sent the ball over the crossbar. Trim then came into the game and owned a lot of the ball in midfield. The game ebbed and flowed with neither team creating much until the 21st minute when Parkvilla scored a third. Even though the Celtic were 3 down, they lifted their heads and started to take control of the game, their continued efforts eventually bore fruit when Trim were awarded a free kick on the edge of the Parkvilla area. The set piece was well worked with David Boyle neatly passing the ball to the Ciaran Caulfield to the left of the wall which he duly slotted the ball in the bottom right hand corner of the net. The visitors started the second half well and continued to dominate possession but chances were few and far between. The situation was compounded when an unfortunate dispossession in midfield led to a break through the middle that saw Parkvilla score their 4th goal. Trim started to rally and were getting some joy down the left wing, in the 43rd minute Ciaran Caulfield broke though the Parkvilla defense and shot narrowly wide, 2 mins later the Parkvilla keeper made a fingertip save in the bottom right hand corner to deny another shot from Ciaran. Eventually the persistence paid off with another shot from Ciaran that passed under the keeper which Kian Oliver got on the end of to scramble the ball into the goal. Celtic still had all the ball and were chasing a third but it wasn’t to come, in the 50th minute a cross from the right from Kian Oliver was half volleyed by Josh Harris just over the bar, five minutes later Ciaran Caulfield broke through again and was denied only by the ball hitting the outside of the upright. It was a disappointing result for Trim in a game where the opposition had only a couple of chances and little possession. But the lads demonstrated a resilience and will to win which resulted in a much better performance in the second half and will stand to them in future games. Best for Trim were Ciaran Caulfield, Josh Harris and Joey Cole. Trim Celtic: James Bourke, Sean Tully, James Molloy, Wes Gibbons, Josh Harris, Harry Cottrell, Ciaran Caulfield, Joey Cole, Kris Gorman, Aaron McCormack, David Boyle Subs: Blake Gibbons (for Boyle), Kian Oliver (for Cottrell), Shaun Mulryan (for Tully), Evan Kennedy (for McCormack)
