Match Report

Trim Celtic Scorers: Conor McGinley 15 mins, Mark Cunningham 25 mins
Trim Celtic came from behind to claim all three points in a keenly contested game in Navan. It was Kingscourt who took the lead when an excellently delivered corner was forced goalwards, Mark Cunningham thought he cleared the ball off the line but the referee correctly judged the ball to be over the line. Within ten minutes the Hoops were level through a corner kick of their own. Another excellent delivery, this time by Eoin Gaffney, was expertly volleyed home by Conor McGinley. McGinley had to adjust his body before swinging his left foot to connect sweetly and send the ball into the bottom corner for the equaliser. This seemed to give Celtic hope and they threw themselves into every challenge and the pressure told on Kingscourt when they conceded a free kick about thirty yards out. Up stepped centre-half Mark Cunningham to rifle the ball high into net to put Celtic in front for his first goal of the season. Kingcourt were unlucky not to score a second when some hesitancy in the Celtic defence allowed the centre forward to nip in to win the ball before turning from a tight angle and sending a floated shot onto the crossbar. Dalton then produced an excellent stop to keep his team in the lead when he stood tall in the face of a great strike to palm the ball to safety.
The second half was fairly scrappy affair with no clear chances of note at either end which suited Celtic as they hung on to claim their first win over Kingscourt at the fifth attempt. The result lifted Celtic above Kingscourt into third place with second placed Enfield next up on Saturday. Best for Celtic were Daniel Coleman, Conor McGinley and Andreas Lopez. Trim Celtic: Kevin Dalton, Adam Wilson, Mark Cunningham, Oran Kirby, Eoin Gaffney, Daniel Coleman, Evan deCourcey Tobin, Andreas Lopez, Liam Reilly, Conor McGinley, Kevin McGowan Subs: Andrew Gibney (for McGowan), Cian Russell (for McGinley), Fionn McEvoy, Luke Doyle, Eoghan Lenehan
